How to detect if your Social Media Account(Facebook, Twitter, Googleplus e.t.c) Has Been Cloned and Delete it.

Social media account cloning is a process whereby a random person around the world duplicates a social media account that doesn't belong to him or her for purpose of using the victim's account for financial gain(scam) or simply to tarnish the victim's image.

In this Information Age, every slight information can be used for financial gain in one way or the other. One of the ways perpetrators carry out their malevolent plans is by cloning people's social media account and using the social media account to ask other users for financial assistance or extract sensitive information from them using simple or sophisticated social engineering techniques.  The person blocks you, so you can’t see their activities. To check if your account has been cloned, simply follow the steps below.

Method 1 (Case study; Facebook)

Step 1 - Use your friend's social media account or any other account to search for your name. Example if your name is Michael Nduka Jones on facebook, use your friend's account or any of your relation to search for "Michael Nduka Jones" If you see an account that is different from yours, click on it and proceed to step 2.

Step 2 - On the right side on the profile, click on the more (usually denoted by three dots) then click on report and click on  "Report this profile"

Step 3 - On the What's happening dialog box,   click on "They're pretending to be me or someone I know" then click continue.

Step 4 - On the "Who are they pretending to be?" dialog box choose "me"  then choose continue.

Step 5 - .Click on "Submit to Facebook for Review" and wait for the account to be reviewed and deleted.

Step 6 - Let all of your friends know about the cloning attempt as quickly as possible. Warn them not to accept any friend requests that look like they came from you.
